If the workers kept that watch in their front pocket, there was a risk of it breaking. That is why a small pocket was made in jeans to keep it safe. That is why the small pocket made in jeans is also called watch pocket. But now gradually other things have started being kept in this pocket instead of the watch. And now it is used for fashion instead of necessity.
How did jeans get the name denim?
Usually the jeans that people wear are called denim. But have you ever wondered how jeans were named denim. There is a small story behind this. When jeans started being made in the 19th century, it was first made in the city of Nimes in France.
The fabric used for this was called Serge. Gradually the local people of France started calling it Serge De Nimes which means Serge from Nimes. And later gradually its name became Denim.
